Hair Extension Techniques:

  • Weaving Technique is the most common form of hair extensions. With the Weaving Technique the hair extensions are sewn on to very small cornrows or tracks. First, the natural hair is braided around the head in a concentric circle of cornrows. The hair may also be braided into a zig zag shape to make things easier and quicker. The wearer may leave out a section of hair if she/he wants a part or half the hair weaved. The braids are sewn down, then extensions are sewn to the braids. So the hair won't appear lumpy, the hair is sewn horizonally across the head from one side to the other, starting from the bottom.  Eight to fifteen tracks are needed for a full head. Care for this style as you would your natural hair, washing at least once a week.  If the hair is to have a parting, it's recommended that a weft of hair is glued as close as possible to part in the hair that separates the braids and the hair that the wearer left out. After those steps are finished, the wearer can have the weave hair cut or styled however he or she wants with her/his own hair blending in.

  • Bonding is a popular temporary weaving method and a great way to add volume or vibrant streaks of color to your natural hair. Tracks of hair are glued to the roots of your own hair with a special adhesive. To prevent damage to your natural hair, tracks shouldn't be left in longer than 4 weeks. Depending on the type of bonding glue used you can wash hair nomally.

  •  Fusion method delivers one of the most versatile and believable weaves on the market. With this technique, a machine similar to a hot glue gun is used to adhere human hair extensions to individual strands of your natural hair (about the same size as a micro braid) for a truly authentic look. With a fusion weave, you can wash your hair every week and use products like gels and mousse to style. This is one of the most time-consuming (8 to 16 hours) and expensive methods (prices range from about $800 to $1,800). To use a heating appliance, individual strands of hair are used. Hair is sectioned out as if the client is getting skinny individual braids. The appliance is heated to the correct temperature. The stylist attaches a section of the human hair to the client's sectioned hair. Depending on the style, a half head of fused hair could take about 20 sections. A full head could use about 50 sections. The heating applicance can cost from $100.00 upwards. It is highly recommended that a trained and certified stylist use this technique because of potential hair loss and skin burning from the appliance may occur.

  •  Clip In and Clip On Hair Extensions are the most temporary form of Hair Extensions. This technique is the least permanent and can be very effective without the negative things such as traction alopecia associated with glue extensions. The hair weft has small toupee clips sewn onto them. Usually a set of clip in extensions average eight to ten strips of human hair in varying widths from two inches to eight inches. Usually starting at the nape of the neck the hair is sectioned neatly, then the weft is places onto this section with the clips open, and facing the scalp. Each clip is snapped into place. It can be useful to lightly backcomb each section for a more secure grip. This is repeated until each clip in weft is in place. It is best to style both your own hair and a the hair extensions before fitting them to your head. The clip ins can be worn all day and all night, however, they must be removed before sleeping. Some people wear clip ins just for nights out and others will wear them everyday to work.

  • How to care for your Hair Extensions:

    • Take care of  your Human Hair Extensions as you would your own natural hair, and remember that like your natural hair, your extensions can be easily damaged with too much heat or abuse.
    • Use a Hair Extension Loop Brush or Wide Tooth Comb for brushing and styling.
    • When removing knots or tangles start at the ends and work your way up. Never pull on your Extensions.
    • Gently tie your hair up in a scarf or  wear in a ponytail while sleeping.
    • Never sleep on wet hair
    • Wash regularly with a mild shampoo designed for Hair Extensions in cool water.
    • Keep your scalp moisturized, but avoid conditioners or silicone based products if your hair is bonded because these products will loosen the bonds.
    • When drying your hair, never rub or scrub with a towel . Simply wrap hair in a towel or air dry if possible.
    • Wait until hair is completly dry before combing or brushing.
    • Speak with your stylist before your Hair Extensions are applied about after care.

How to care for your Lord & Cliff Fusion Hair Extensions:

    • Speak with your stylist regarding maintenance instructions before leaving the salon.Set up a follow-up maintenance schedule with your stylist.
    • Do not shampoo your hair for 48-72 hours after the extensions are completed or after maintenance sessions.
    • When shampooing or conditioning your hair do not scrub hair.
    • Wrap hair in a towel to dry. Do not dry hair using a scrubbing motion. If using blow dryer use the "cool" setting and take care not to use forceful air flow.
    • Never use products that contain acetone, alcohol, or sulphur.
    • Before going to bed protect your hair by placing it in a ponytail or wrap with a scarf. Never go to bed with wet hair.
    • Brush you hair using a Hair Extension Loop Brush.
    • Avoid using heat tools directly over the bonds. Heat will loosen the keratin bonds.
    • Swimming pool chemicals and sea water will weaken keratin bonds. Before swimming wet hair completely, place in a ponytail or bun, and cover with a water tight cap.
    • After swimming immediately rinse the hair and dry at the base area.

How to apply Hair Extensions using Liquid Gold Bonding Glue:

    • Make sure that the hair is clean and dry. Do not apply any conditioner because it will leave an oily film on the hair that will weaken the bond.
    • Decide on your hair style and how you will be applying the hair weft.
    • Starting at the back of your head, section the hair by making a narrow part along your natural hair line. Place remaining hair in a ponytail and out of your way.
    • Measure and cut hair weft to the desired width from ear to ear. Be sure to allow for a little natural hair on the sides in order to hide the hair weft.
    • Apply a small bead of the Liquid Gold Bonding Glue along the hair weft and wait for it to become tacky.
    • Apply along parted section of your hair, close to the scalp but not on the scalp. Press in place for a few seconds to dry.
    • If you want a stronger and longer bond you can heat seal the bonding by laying a warm curling iron along the width of the weft with slight pressure. Take care to place a comb in the parting to avoid an accidental scalp burn.
    • Repeat by making another narrow part and continue through all the above steps, row by row until the desired amount of hair has been added.
    • Liquid Gold Bonding Glue will dry clear and will have a strong bond. Only use Liquid Gold Bond Dissolver to remove bonded Hair Extensions.
